Ikariam Tools Library: Cr Converter

About
  • Name: Cr Converter (aka the Cr Converter "Web Version")
  • Link: http://tools.betawarriors.com/ikcrc
  • Description: Convert and share your battle reports (summary or individual rounds) via in-game message, on the Ikariam forums, and more!
I am very happy to announce an update to the Cr Converter [Web Version]. In most respects, this is the exact same Cr Converter many of you have been using for some time. The biggest difference you will notice right off the bat is a new face-lift. It has now been integrated into the new Ikariam Tools Library at betawarriors.com.

The other difference is the ability to save your reports, and recall them later. If this is something you would like to do, you will need to register an account. Only you will be able view and recall your battles (unless of course you are silly enough to share your username and password with others!).

Video Tutorial(s)
With the latest version of Ikariam, it has become a little more difficult to get to the HTML source of a battle report. To help aid users, I have created five tutorial videos for each of the major browsers. These all walk through the same process of creating a "View Source" bookmark, and then using it to convert the combat report into a format more suitable for sharing. If you are having trouble using the Cr Converter, choose your browser and watch its corresponding tutorial video.
Google Chrome
Mozilla Firefox
Internet Explorer
Opera
Apple Safari

The new "save/archive" feature.

Thoughts for the future
  • Statistics: How many battles have you won/lost in the last month? How much damage have you done? How do you compare against other members of the Ikariam Tools Library communtiy?
  • Hall of Fame: Most damage/generals lost for a single battle, most damage/generals lost for a 1v1 battle, largest battle (number of players involved), etc
  • CR Grouping: Say AllianceX declares vs AllianceY. If all members of the two alliances are part of the library community, battles from these two alliances could be combined programmatically, and reveal a real-time "pulse" for the which side has won/lost more, done the most damage, etc.

and it's really nice to find out the creator/one of the creators in the Ikariam Forum..

one thing you may add on this..

some other cr converters shows the damage percentage on both side as well.. if you could implement this on this converter.. it will be great and complete

by the way, as I said.. I am using it and will be using it on future too.. Love what you did on this one.. :)

If there was no general's lost (or damage done), would people prefer to see that in the title, or should I just omit that line completely?

For example, in the report above, if there was no damage/general's lost, the spoiler would look something like:

Or, would people rather I be explicit, and it read something more like:

Well...why does it not count the loot as damage....

It does. The above is just an example of how the spoiler would look.

That was one concern. The other thought was to put them all on the same line, but I kinda liked the separation. If others have a similar opinion, I'll probably make the change.

I would say you add the heading with the main body.. that would look more slick..

or if you prefer to keep it.. then make it

battle for neverland

generals killed/wasted: 9650
generals lost: 5246
damage done=640324
damage taken=346490

and great job adding the damage percentage

I'll think what I'll do is add options to turn on/off each spoiler item [general's lost, total damage, etc]

Update: Spoiler Options

Completed addition of "spoiler" options, which include the abilities to turn on or off any of the three options that can be added to the spoiler title:
  • General's Lost (combined total from both sides)
  • Damage Received (again, combined total)
  • Loot

By default, the "spoiler" option is disabled, but can easily be turned on with a single checkbox:

This options area will only be displayed when "bbcode" is selected. Clicking on or off any of the three items will also immediately update the selected (converted) report.

And THIS is why Beta is the best server-Home to holy and the only good Ikariam CR converter.

Great job Holy and thanks for the update! I always forget there is a web version I can use when I'm playing on my phone.

I know it would be quite a bit of work, but would it be possible to see a mobile CR converter for when Ika 2012 comes out?

Thanks Dust. :)

It actually is possible to use the Cr Converter on a mobile device. The hardest part is getting to the HTML source of the battle report. I looked around on the web, and came across a solution that works pretty well.
  1. What you need to do is create a new "bookmark" on your mobile device's browser.
You can name it something like "View Source".
  2. For the "target" or URL of the bookmark, paste in the text below:

    Source code

    1

    javascript:source%3Dwindow.open%28%27about%3Ablank%27%29%3Bvar%20newDoc%3Dsource.document%3BnewDoc.open%28%29%3BnewDoc.write%28%27%3Chtml%3E%3Chead%3E%3Ctitle%3ESource%20of%20%27+document.location.href+%27%3C/title%3E%3C/head%3E%3Cbody%3E%3C/body%3E%3C/html%3E%27%29%3BnewDoc.close%28%29%3Bpre%3DnewDoc.body.appendChild%28newDoc.createElement%28%22pre%22%29%29%3B%20pre.appendChild%28newDoc.createTextNode%28document.documentElement.innerHTML%29%29%3B

  3. Now navigate to the battle report you want to convert on your mobile device, and click on the bookmark you created.
  4. This will create a new page with the HTML source that you can now select, and copy.
  5. Paste the copied HTML source into http://tools.betawarriors.com/ikcrc as normal, and continue as from your PC.

You only have to setup the bookmark once, and then repeat steps 3-5 for any CR your want to convert.

The converter page does need a little work though, so its better suited for smaller resolution devices. This is on my short-list of things to fix.

Updated for use with v0.5.x

With the release of Ikariam v0.5.x and introduction of ajax loaded pages, it has become slightly more difficult to get to the HTML source of any given page. For this reason, I have provided instructions to create a "browser bookmark" that will help assist in extracting the necessary HTML. Once created, you can simply navigate to the combat report you would like to convert, click the saved bookmark, and copy/paste the HTML source that is created for you.

Check out the Cr Converter page for instructions on how to use the tool under v0.5.x.

Note: I will work to get the GM/Chrome versions updated sometime this week as well.

A couple things I'd like to point out about this converter:
  1. People will have the same problem getting the HTML
  2. It RELIES on sending all of your HTML to their servers, for storage. This, in my opinion, is a big security risk to all your town information and data.

cant figure it out for Firefox and web version cr- DO I paste that "java code" into the new bookmark (after opening its properties) into the url AFTER the http? been trying it both ways, still not working
I have created videos for FireFox and Opera, on how to both create the "View Source" bookmark, as well as how to use it to convert a battle report.

If these are helpful to people, I can gladly create videos for the remaining browsers as well.

Edit:
I have created videos for five of the major browsers:

Chrome, FireFox, Internet Explorer, Opera, Safari

I also added links to each of them on the converter page .
